Day 1 – 3: London, England
Welcome to London! One of the oldest of the world’s great cities – its history spanning nearly two millennia – and one of the most cosmopolitan and most visited cities. Immersed in history, London’s rich seams of eye-opening antiquity are everywhere. The city’s buildings are striking milestones in a unique and beguiling biography, and a great many of them – the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben – are instantly recognizable landmarks.
London has something for everyone: from history and culture to fine food and good times. Enjoy your 3-night stay to explore.
Day 4: London, England to Paris, France
Farewell London and board the Eurostar for your scenic rail journey to Paris for your 2 Night stay.
Located along the Seine River, Paris is a collection of villages and the sprawl of cobbled lands. Iconic architecture reaches into the sky from the wrought-iron structure of the Eiffel Tower to the medieval times of the Notre Dame cathedral. Galleries, bistros, and boutiques all line the boulevards of Paris. The city of romance is alive and awaits you to explore its treasures.
Day 5: Paris, France
Day at leisure to explore the many treasures Paris has on offer.
Day 6: Paris, France – Embarkation Day
After a leisurely start to the day, embark on your European River Cruise from Paris to Port Saint Louis (Provence).
Day 7: Vernon, France
Veron is on the banks of the River Seine in the region of Normandy. Only a few kilometers away is the beautiful Giverny gardens and Monet’s house. It is a magnet for art and culture lovers and those of a romantic inclination – and rightly so. The lush garden looks like a meadow of flowers straight out of an impressionist painting. The highlight is the enchanting lily pond, the subject of one of the world’s most valuable paintings. And you’ll be able to admire it up close – what a view!
Day 8: Caudebec-en-Caux, France
Located on the banks of the Seine, your visit to Caudebec-en-Caux is sure to start with a stroll along the scenic river banks. Make your way to the historical centre of town where you will find numerous examples of gothic-style architecture, some of which date back to the 12th Century.
Day 9: Day Excursion: Caudebec-en-Caux, France to Normandy
Pay homage to the brave soldiers who fought in WWII, where you can choose between excursions that visit significant US landing sites or explore the commemorative areas for the British.
Day 10: Rouen, France
Rouen, capital of the northern French region of Normandy, is a port city on the river Seine. Important in the Roman era and Middle Ages, it has Gothic churches, such as Saint-Maclou and Saint-Ouen, and a cobblestoned pedestrian center with medieval half-timbered houses. The skyline is dominated by the spires of Cathédrale Notre-Dame, much-painted by Impressionist Claude Monet.
Day 11: Conflans, France
Located at the confluence of the Oise & Seine rivers, this quiet township is located only half an hour by rail from the bustling city of lights, Paris. Discover the long and intricate history of France’s inland waterways, canals & locks with a visit to the Musee de la Batellerie or bask in the beauty of the carefully manicured lawns & flowerbeds that surround the property.
Day 12: Paris, France
Today as you dock in Paris, join a guided city tour that shows you the iconic sites of Paris, such as the Louvre Museum, the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, Opera Garnier, and the famous Champs-Elysees. Overnight on board in Paris
Day 13: Paris, France – Disembarkation and Transfer to St. Jean De Losne, France – Embarkation
Today ends your journey on the Seine River in Paris. As you disembark you will be transferred to the rail station to take a high-speed training to Dijon. On arrival, you will be met by an Avalon representative, who will drive you to the picturesque village of Beaune in the centre of the Burgundy winemaking region of France. Encircled by medieval ramparts there is no shortage of sites to see and experience. This afternoon you will be transferred to St. Jean De Losne to embark on your 7 night Saone and Rhone River cruise.
Day 14: Mâcon, France
Mâcon is a city in the Burgundy region of east-central France. Exhibits at the Musée des Ursulines, a former 17th-century convent, focus on art, archeological excavations, and local urban history. La Maison de Bois, a centuries-old house, features a wooden façade with unusual statues of monkeys and masked characters. Dating from the 19th-century, the Église Saint-Pierre is a Romanesque church with twin steeples.
Day 15 – 16: Lyon, France
Explore the Old Town with its maze of medieval alleyways, and the lively cafes, monuments, and the Bartholdi sculptured fountain of Place des Terreaux. Journey to the point where the Rhone and Saon rivers meet. Overnight on board
Day 17: Tournon, France
Journey back in time to take in one of France’s oldest medieval cities. Explore the 16th-century castle and Roman ruins between the Rhone River & the granite slopes of the Hermitage.
Day 18: Avignon, France
The city of Popes in picturesque Provence. Take in the ancient engineering marvel of the Roman aqueduct of Pont du Gard or explore the famed wine cellars of Chateauneuf-du-Pape for a true taste of the Rhone wine region.
Day 19: Arles, France
Discover the captivating heart of the Provence Region. Visit the Roman Amphitheatre or for a unique art experience, consider a guided tour to the Carrieres de Lumieres (Cathedral of Images). Be sure to enjoy a glass of wine at the Le Café Van Gogh.
Day 20: Port Saint Louis, France to Marseille, France
The town of Port Saint Louis boasts a vibrant atmosphere and offers its visitors multiple options when it comes to relaxation and spending quality time. Napoleon Beach, Olga Beach, and Carteau Beach are popular among sun-seekers who are fond of nature and are looking to enjoy the unspoiled surroundings. The Camargue Delta is also one of the natural attractions at the mouth of the Rhone River, where rich fauna and flora can be admired.
Disembark at Port St Louis. Airport transfer to Marseille Airport for your return flight home.
