Welcome to Crete, the biggest island in Greece and home to the ancient Minoan civilisation. When you’re done soaking in the sun and the sand at the famed Elafonissi Beach, be sure to check out the Knossos ruins, hike the Samaria Gorge and explore the Old Town of Rethymno.

Day 7: Kusadasi, Turkey
Welcome to Kusadasi! This scenic seaside town is your gateway to Ephesus, one of the best preserved ancient Greco-Roman ruins in the world. When you’ve finished soaking in the history, spend some time relaxing on the beach, sampling some Turkish cuisine or treating yourself to a spot of shopping.

Day 8: Istanbul, Turkey
Welcome to Istanbul, the cultural capital of Turkey and meeting place of East and West. This vibrant city is filled with iconic sites, including Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and Galata Tower. Shop for ceramics, lamps and rugs at the Grand Bazaar and be sure to sample some sweet Turkish delight.

Day 9: Mykonos, Greece
Welcome to Mykonos, famed for its beautiful beaches and whitewashed houses. Explore Mykonos Town, hop from beach to beach, wander Little Venice and visit the Delos ruins. Finish your day soaking in the sunset with fresh Greek seafood and a glass of wine in hand.

Day 10: Athens, Greece
Welcome to Athens, the birthplace of democracy. This vibrant city is steeped in history, which you can discover for yourself at the Acropolis and National Archaeological Museum. Afterwards, take a stroll through Plaka, a neighbourhood teeming with cobblestoned streets, sidewalk cafes and tiny local stores.

Day 11: Santorini, Greece
Welcome to Santorini! This postcard-perfect island is possibly Greece’s most iconic island, famed for its steep cliffs, blue-roofed houses, and breathtaking sunsets. Hike from Fira to Oia, explore the red and black sanded beaches and visit the Santorini volcano. After a day of exploring, you’ll want to enjoy a glass of wine as the sun sets over this mesmerising island.

Day 13: Kotor, Montenegro
Kotor is a fortified town on Montenegro’s Adriatic coast, in a bay near the limestone cliffs of Mt. Lovćen. Characterized by winding streets and squares, its medieval old town has several Romanesque churches, including Kotor Cathedral. It’s also home to the Maritime Museum, which explores local seafaring history. Sveti Đorđe, one of 2 tiny islands off the ancient town of Perast, features a centuries-old church.

Day 14: Messina, Italy
Stroll through Messina’s Piazza Cairoli taking in magnificent fountains and cathedrals, or sip Marsala wine at a sidewalk cafe. Messina welcomes cruise ship visitors with its lovely harbour, extraordinary architecture (much of which survived a disastrous earthquake and tidal wave in 1908) and wonderful food.

Welcome to Rudesheim, a quaint town known for its making of Riesling wines. Some of the must-see sights include Drosselgasse – a local laneway lined with shops, taverns and restaurants, Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet and Brömserburg Castle, home to the Rheingau Wine Museum.

Day 24: Mainz, Germany
Welcome to Mainz, famed for its old town, half-timbered houses and medieval market squares. During your stroll through the town centre, be sure to visit the Marktbrunnen Renaissance fountain, the Romanesque Mainz Cathedral and the Gutenberg Museum.

Day 25: Strasbourg, France
