Day 1: Beijing, China

Upon arrival, a tour representative will meet you at the port and transfer you to the hotel.

Day 2: Tiananmen Square & Forbidden City (Beijing), China

Visit Tiananmen Square, one of the largest public squares in the world, and the venue of the infamous 1989 Tiananmen Square demonstrations. Acclaimed as the “Gate of Heavenly Peace”, it is the foreground to the Forbidden City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Otherwise known as the Imperial Palace Museum, the Forbidden City is the citadel of China’s last 24 Emperors during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and was the political and ritual centre of China. Cap off the day with an opportunity to attend a legendary large-scale musical drama, “The Golden Mask Dynasty” (not included).

Day 3: Great Wall of China (Beijing), China

Continue your educational journey of China’s fascinating history with a stop at a Jade Museum to observe skilled artisans carve intricate designs. With more than four thousand years of history, jade stone in Chinese culture symbolises preciousness and beauty, and embodies the Confucian virtues of courage, wisdom and compassion. Belong long, you will drive through the mountainous countryside to the iconic Great Wall at Juyong Pass, an accessible and gentle stretch of the Great Wall, meandering over 3500 miles of China’s northern mountain ranges from the Yellow Sea to the Gobi Desert. Immerse yourself further with an optional tour to see Beijing’s 700-year old Hutongs or narrow alleys by old-fashioned pedicab (not included), including a visit to a local family to witness the daily lives of the people living in a courtyard-style houses.

Day 4: Beijing – Suzhou

Today is your chance to become experts in Traditional Chinese Medicine, a 5000-year-old practice that incorporates herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage, exercise and dietary therapy. Based on the concept of a connection between mind, body and environment to prevent and manage diseases, elements of its natural and holistic approach are widely adopted in Western medicine. With your mind and soul at ease, travel on a high-speed bullet train to the harmonious city of Suzhou often described as the ‘Venice of the East’ for its classical gardens, palaces, canals and bridges.

Day 5: Suzhou – Wuxi

Often described as the ‘Venice of the East’, Suzhou flaunts 2500 years of history and a myriad of ancient gardens, palaces, temples and canals. You will stroll in the world-famous UNESCO recognised Lingering Garden, featuring ornate viewing pavilions and the Crown of Clouds Peak, a striking limestone rockery. Prepare to take in more natural beauty with a visit to the Silk Spinning Factory to witness the delicate silk-making process from silkworm cocoons. China is the largest silk producer in the world and Suzhou is renowned for its exquisite quality silk, where you can testify that the handmade quilts are as light as feather and gently warm. Then travel to Wuxi to discover Buddhism by the Lingshan Grand Buddha, the largest Buddha statue in the world standing at 88 metres tall as a holy beacon within a religious wonderland. Conclude the day at the famous Nanchang Street, an ancient thoroughfare showcasing the juxtaposition of traditional and modern living. Here you have the option to cruise along the Grand Canal (not included) to view life along China’s ancient waterway.

Day 6: Wuxi – Hangzhou

Gain an insight into China’s enormous manufacturing and production capabilities with a visit to a Pearl Factory to learn about freshwater pearls, a key export commodity with great cultural significance since the Han dynasty. Then take in the pleasant sounds at Li Lake Park, home to egrets and many rare species of birds, and the wonderful scenery of picturesque Taihu Lake, the second biggest freshwater lake in China. Top off your evening with a spectacular “Impression West Lake” show (not included) staged entirely upon the open-air of the West Lake with a backdrop of natural mountains and real water – a truly captivating artistic masterpiece of music, light and dance produced by the theatrical director of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games’ opening and closing ceremonies.

Day 7: Hangzhou – Shanghai

Hangzhou is considered the tea capital of China, so a visit to the city just isn’t complete without a trip to a local tea house to appreciate tea while revelling in the natural scenery and beautiful village surrounds. Learn how to make local speciality Longjing Tea including picking, frying and tasting the tea leaves. Then enjoy a small boat ride on the UNESCO listed West Lake, epitomising the ethereal beauty of Hangzhou’s willow-draped islands. Next, transfer to cosmopolitan metropolis Shanghai to visit the famous Bund, a five-block riverfront promenade of shops and commercial buildings. Modern mega high-rises on the east and traditional European-style architecture on the west are divided by the Huangpu River. Complete a memorable evening with the option to attend a thrilling Chinese Acrobatic Show “ERA: The Intersection of Time” (not included), created by the director of The Cirque du Soleil, and widely considered the best acrobatic show in Shanghai and the “summit” by professional Chinese acrobats.

Day 8: Shanghai, China

Step back in time at the Shanghai Museum, home to more than 120,000 objects and artworks. In the afternoon, you may enjoy an optional half-day tour of Shanghai (not included) to explore Yu Garden, Xintiandi, Old Town and Nanjing Road. The exquisite layout, beautiful scenery, and artistic style of the ancient Yu Garden architecture makes it one of the premier must-visit attractions of Shanghai. One of the best ways to enjoy the extraordinary scenery along the Huangpu River is to take a charming “Huangpu River Cruise” (not included).

Day 9: Shanghai, China

Today, be transferred to the Cruise Port to embark Sapphire Princess and get ready to set sail to Japan for your Cherry Blossom Discovery

Day 10 – 11: At Sea

Day 12: Tokyo, Japan

Yokohama has completely transformed over the past few decades and is now one of Japan’s largest ports and the gateway to Tokyo. Ancient traditions and historic sites blend into modern culture, crafting a city unlike anywhere else. In Tokyo, you can walk amongst neon-glowing skyscrapers and historical temples which make for a truly unmatched experience.

Day 13: Shimizu, Japan

In the shadow of Mount Fuji, Shimizu is one of the most beautiful ports in Japan. Walk through the pine groves of Miho, home to a 650-year-old Japanese black pine, or enjoy spectacular views of Mount Fuji from the lush, forested hill of Nihondaira. Take in the seascapes on a bay cruise, or learn of undersea delights at Japan’s first sushi museum, and get a glimpse at feudal life in Japan in 200 BC at the archaeological site of Toro.

Day 14: Osaka, Japan

Osaka is renown for its modern architecture, nightlife and delicious street food. The 16th-century shogunate Osaka Castle has undergone countless restorations and remains as the city’s most historical landmark.

Day 15: Kochi, Japan

Engage with locals and indulge in local flavours in this welcoming city. The city centre was initially settled in 1601 as a town surrounding Kochi Castle, which is now one of the region’s principal attractions. Discover the lovely Katsurahama beach area, where the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial overlooks the sea and honors this legendary Japanese peace negotiator.

Day 16: At Sea

Day 17: Shanghai, China

Today disembark in Shanghai and begin your journey home.
