Day 1 – 3: London, England
Welcome to London! One of the world’s oldest great cities – its history spanning nearly two millennia – and one of the most cosmopolitan and most visited cities. Immersed in history, London’s rich seams of eye-opening antiquity are everywhere. The city’s buildings are striking milestones in a unique and beguiling biography, and a great many of them – the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben – are instantly recognisable landmarks. London has something for everyone: from history and culture to fine food and good times. Enjoy your 3-night stay to explore the historic city.
Day 4: Rail London to Paris, France
As you farewell London and board the Eurostar for your scenic rail journey to Paris for your 3 Night stay.
Located along the Seine River, Paris is a collection of villages and the sprawl of cobbled lands. Iconic architecture reaches into the sky from the wrought-iron structure of the Eiffel Tower to the medieval times of the Notre Dame cathedral. Galleries, bistros, and boutiques all line the boulevards of Paris. The city of romance is alive and awaits you to explore its treasures.
Day 5 – 6: Paris, France
Enjoy time at leisure to take in the sights and delights Paris is famous for.
Day 7: Rail Paris to Amsterdam, Netherlands
It’s time to farewell Paris as you board your train on your scenic rail journey to Amsterdam. Today you will embark on your 8 Day European River Cruise journey from Amsterdam to Basel. Overnight onboard in Amsterdam
Day 8 – 9: Cologne, Germany
Founded by the Romans, Cologne is one of Germany’s oldest cities. Explore the old town with its beautiful squares, local markets, and historical monuments. The highlight of this stop is the magnificent World–Heritage-listed Gothic Cathedral. If you fancy going further afield book an excursion to Drachenburg Castle or Bruhl, famous for the Augustus Palace and Falkenlust. Discover gems of the past in the Old Town and explore the modern city which was rebuilt after World War 2. Cologne boasts the World-Heritage listed Gothic Cathedral as well as museums, galleries, and a Roman artifact museum!
Day 10: Rudesheim, Germany
Located in the Rhine Valley, Germany, Rudesheim is best known for winemaking, especially of Riesling wines. In the town centre, visit Drosselgasse, a local laneway lined with shops, taverns, and restaurants. Nearby, Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet is a museum of automated musical instruments. Medieval Brömserburg Castle is home to the Rheingau Wine Museum, exhibiting wine paraphernalia from ancient times to the present.
Day 11: Mainz, Germany & Day Excursion to Heidelberg, Germany
Known for its old town, with half-timbered houses and medieval market squares. Stroll through the town centre to visit the Marktbrunnen, a Renaissance fountain with red columns. Nearby, a distinctive octagonal tower tops the Romanesque Mainz Cathedral, built of deep red sandstone. The Gutenberg Museum honors the printing press inventor with exhibits, including 2 of his original bibles.
Your day excursion includes the picturesque township of Heidelberg, Germany. A historic university town, offering you the chance to take in the phenomenal ruins of the Renaissance castle, home to the Imperial Princes. Enjoy some local delicacies as you people-watch in the old town square.
Day 12: Strasbourg, France
Strasbourg is invariably described as quaint, a rather overused word that in this case is perfectly apropos. Whether you see it via a canal boat or on foot with an insightful local expert, this historic town with its cobbled lanes, half-timbered homes, giant stork nests, and impossible-to-resist pastry shops will win your heart. Situated halfway between Paris and Prague, the Alsatian town of Strasbourg is known as the “Crossroads of Europe.” It’s also located right on the border of France and Germany, which has resulted in Strasbourg’s unique blending of those nations’ traditional culinary and architectural styles. Choose which way you wish to explore it: with a panoramic tour or by rambling through the vibrant streets of Grande Île.
Day 13: Breisach, Germany & Day Excursion to the Black Forest
Set amongst the rolling vineyards between the Rhine River and Black Forrest, Breisach makes the perfect gateway to discover the wine & food-loving culture of the region.
Day 14: Basel, Switzerland to Zurich, Switzerland
Today to set ashore to the medieval town of Basel, where your river journey concludes. Take some time to explore the town’s medieval old town centers around Marktplatz, dominated by the 16th-century, red-sandstone Town Hall. Take a short transfer to Zurich for your flight home or ask us about our flexible flights & extend your stay.
