Day 1: Venice, Italy
Today you will travel from Australia to Venice to commence your exciting European journey.
Day 2: Venice, Italy
Upon arrival in Venice today you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.
Day 3: Venice – Mestre
After breakfast enjoy a city tour starting from the magnificent Piazza San Marco, one of the most beautiful squares in the world and the centre of Venetian life. On the north side of the square stands the Clock Tower and the Procuratie Vecchie, to the west is the Napoleonic wing and on the south, Procuratie Nuove. The Basilica of San Marco and the Palazzo Ducale – the symbolic monuments of the Venetian Republic – stand on the background of the square. Inside the church, admire the ornate décor and magnificent Byzantine mosaics. Then walk to the Rialto Bridge, one of the most beautiful bridges and symbols of the town and conclude with a visit to the Vecchia Murano (included) to view beautiful hand blown glass works. (B)
Day 4: Mestre – Verona – Milan
Enjoy your morning in Mestre before traveling to pristine Verona. Here experience a BONUS City tour. Visit the still-used Verona Arena (with the option – not included – to fully enter the arena), Castelvecchio as seen from the river, Porta Corsari (a roman gate of the first century AD) and the impressive Ponte Pietra (stone bridge). Wrap up the tour with a visit to Juliet’s house to view the famous balcony visited by Romeo. Conclude today with the trip to Milan, where you can relax for the evening. (B)
Day 5: Milan, Italy
Famous as the Italian capital of fashion and design, Milan is also a hub for art, history and culture! Today enjoy a BONUS city tour. Take a guided walk by the Castello Sforzesco with a visit to the extensive gardens. From the castle walk towards the Duomo, look out for the many elegant buildings that line each street. From Piazza Duomo, walk through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele to Piazza della Scala and the famous theater in the world: La Scala. Spend the rest of the day at your own pace. (B)
Day 6: Milan – Lake Como – Genoa
This morning take the scenic drive to Lake Como, a highlight on your Italian adventure. The BONUS tour will start from Piazza del Duomo with a splendid cathedral, neoclassical theatre and Casa. Wandering through the historic town centre, reach the Romanesque basilica of San Fedele and the walls medieval walls that surround the city. Then, experience Lake Como from the water on a one hour boat trip past some of the most iconic lakeside villages. Travel to Genoa and relax for the evening. (B)
Day 7: Genoa – La Spezia – Florence
Drive to La Spezia, gateway to the Cinque Terre; ‘Five Lands’. Comprised of five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore, the coastline, villages and surrounding hillsides form the UNESCO listed Cinque Terre National Park. Look out for the carefully built terraces on the rugged, steep landscape right up to the cliffs that overlook the sea. Only paths, trains and boats connect the villages, cars cannot reach them from the outside. After the scenic local train trip (included) into Cinque Terre, enjoy your included BONUS guided tour. Later continue your adventure on to Florence. (B)
Day 8: Florence – Siena – Montepulciano – Rome
Travel from Florence to Siena and explore Tuscany today. Starting from Piazza San Domenico, be guided through the historic and beautifully preserved streets and piazzas of the old city. Admire the fourteenth-century Palazzo Salimbeni and continue onto Palazzo Tolomei; the oldest private palace of the city, constructed in 1205. Then enter Piazza del Duomo, one of Italy’s finest examples of the Gothic style. Your tour ends in Piazza del Campo, a beautiful medieval square. After Siena travel into Tuscany where you will enjoy your BONUS wine tasting today in the beautiful town of Montepulciano. Later continue your adventure to Rome. (B)
Day 9: Rome, Italy
With two and a half thousand years of history, art and culture, it is no wonder Rome is one of the most visited cities on the planet. After breakfast today, enjoy a guided tour of the Vatican and its museums. See ornate candelabras, furniture and tapestries, view historic maps and priceless art works. Visit the Sistine Chapel to view frescos of the Genesis and the Last Judgment. Then take an internal tour of Saint Peter’s Basilica, to take in Michelangelo’s Pietà; the marble statue of Mary holding the body of Jesus. Finally visit impressive Saint Peter’s Square. The rest of the day is free for your relaxation or further sightseeing around Rome. (B)
Day 10: Rome, Italy
Endless adventures await in Rome. With two and a half thousand years of history, art and culture, it is no wonder Rome is one of the most visited cities on the planet. Gaze at the masterpieces of the Vatican or walk into the past with visits to ancient relics, historic monuments and legendary museums. Or people-watch while sipping on an espresso in a quaint cafe. Today you will board Norwegian Getaway and commence your Mediterranean journey!
Day 11: At Sea
Your full day at sea will allow you to take full advantage of everything your ship has to offer. Seek out hidden treasures and make the most of the facilities onboard. If you packed full of fun activities then be sure to refer to the ship’s daily newsletter to keep up to date on everything offered onboard. If relaxation is on your mind then your sea day will allow you to sit back, soak in ship life and watch the world as it floats by you.
Day 12: Kotor, Montenegro
Welcome to this beautiful port town in Montenegro. Gaze upon terracotta roofs, clear waters and fresh local seafood right by the sea. This is the perfect destination to sit back and relax amongst the towering mountains of Montenegro.
Day 13: Dubrovnik, Croatia
Despite the magnificent 13th century walls that surround the city, Dubrovnik is one of the most welcoming cruise destinations in all of Europe. Dubbed “the pearl of the Adriatic”, this Croatian city exudes romantic charm and beautiful scenery with its shimmering marble streets, centuries-old buildings capped by bright orange roofs and lovely beaches ensconced between awesome rocky ledges.
Day 14: Corfu, Greece
One of the lushest of the Greek Isles, Corfu is rimmed in dramatic blue waters and topped with tranquil hillside villages. A collection of quaint cafes in the town of Corfu feels very continental, but the island’s secluded coves and sandy beaches could only be found in the Greek Isles.
Day 15: Santorini, Greece
Santorini is one of the most formidable islands in the world, famed for beautiful food, pristine water and unrivalled sunsets, in the foreground are the post card whitewashed buildings. Perceptions are had about the lost city of Atlantis being located here due to Santorini’s subtle mystery.
Day 16: Mykonos, Greece
Explore this quintessential Greek island with pristine white houses with blue accents and beautiful beaches. Once you’ve seen one of the famous sunsets, you’ll understand why this is the most visited island in the region!
Day 17: Piraeus (Athens), Greece
Welcome to Piraeus, the port city of Athens. It is the oldest city in Greece, a guaranteed highlight is the mystical Acropolis, perched high in the hills. Just because this city is vintage don’t think that you’ll be stuck in the past – it is juxtaposed against a modern city filled with shopping, restaurants, culture and beautiful art.
Day 18: At Sea
Your day at sea will allow you to take full advantage of everything the ship has to offer. Seek out hidden treasures and make the most of the facilities onboard. If relaxation is on your mind then your sea day will allow you to sit back, soak in ship life and watch the world as it floats by you.
Day 19: Florence / Pisa (Livorno), Italy
Today you’ll have the opportunity to snap that perfect picture, supporting the Leaning Tower of Pisa then enjoying a pizza. Travel to Florence for more delicious Italian cuisine, be enamoured by the Duomo and Michelangelo’s “David” statue right before the beautiful sunset over the Arno River.
Day 20: Rome, Italy
It is now time to disembark Norwegian Getaway and commence your journey home!
Built in 2014 the Norwegian Getaway can accommodate 3,963 passengers. She sails out of Miami to the warm waters of the Caribbean, beautiful Europe & outstanding Transatlantic cruises. Godmothers to the Norwegian Getaway are the American Football Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders. The Norwegian Getaway features the Waterfront, NCL’s innovative open-air promenade lined with bars and restaurants, offering uninterrupted views of the ocean.
